Before we dip our toe into the ocean of Ragga Twins tales and influence on the widest possible realms of modern music, let us put things simply: The Ragga Twins are THE voice of dance floor music. And have been for several generations…
Reggae to rave, jazz to dubstep, breaks, hardcore, jungle, drum & bass, house and everything in between… Flinty Badman and Deman Rockers have applied their vocal damage and party charm to every scene and style worth raving to.
Shows on every continent, over 1000 recordings, fans from Rio Ferdinand to Lilly Allen: From soundtracking a documentary on Margaret Thatcher to supporting Shabba Ranks and James Brown to working with Skrillex, The Ragga Twins’ inimitable, impossible-to-replicate style and tight balance of conscious and vibey lyricism is alluring, infectious and hype-boosted. Just as it has been since two young ragamuffins cut their teeth on London’s reggae soundsystem culture in 1982
‘Who Inspired You?’ is a retrospective across 2 full length albums, of some of the high times The Ragga Twins have shared with Aquasky & Passenger records.
Longtime collaborators with Aquasky, the Twins have had over 20 releases, features and collaborations with Passenger spanning 15 years.
This sampler brings together some of the unreleased gems from the albums, featuring ‘Soundbwoy Killa’ A collab with Northern Breakbeat maestros 601, in both its original and VIP form. Aquasky then make a strong showing alongside Deman & Flinty in the form of ‘Dirty Entertainerz’ which comes in VIP flavour along with a rework from New York Junglist LionDub. Once Again, Aquasky come through with the Twins along with DJ Rafik, DJ Pfel, DJ Woody & DJ Eprom for a mega scratch-a-thon in the form of ‘IDA’. Finally, Ragga Twins & Aquasky drop dirty bass vibes with ‘Dem No No We’. (which was the theme tune for Ali G)
We asked the guys who they rate from the new jungle scene and this is who they said:
